The Swansons
The Swansons originate from the Backaryd area in Blekinge, Sweden. The families lived under tough conditions. As the head of the family it was hard to provide for your family. The farmland was poor with bad soil and a lot of stones. The church also kept its flock in a tight leash.
When the rumors from the Great West reached Sweden, many of the Swedes decided to leave their country. Some 1,4 million, out of approx. 5 million Swedes, left the country between 1850-1920.
The Velanders originate from the Veberöd area in Skåne, the most southern part of Sweden. Emigration from this part of the country was not as common, since the soil was rich and the farming was more developed. It was easier to make a living and provide for your family.
The following tree is presented person by person, chosen from the menu at the top. The persons with a red frame are those who left Sweden for the Great Country in the west. The children of Sven Månsson, who did not emigrate, are not presented here.
