Johan was born on the small farm of number 21 Dafwaremåla in Bleking, Sweden.

Johan was dismissed from the military in 1895, 46 years old. A normal age of dismissal in those days. They bought a new house in Skärsjörås, since they no longer could stay in the soldiers house, which was owned by the military.
Johan received a small pension from the military.
Johan and his wife moved to their daughter Amanda's house, when she became a widow in 1907. Amandas husband, Gustaf Adolf, migrated to Vermilion, Alberta, Canada in 1907 and died 10 days after arrival there.
Amanda took care of her parents until their deaths, Kjerstin in 1926 and Johan in 1941.
